How to protect a PDF with a password

Protecting a PDF is useful when you need one more control layer before sharing bank details, salary letters, personal records, contracts, or internal documents. Password protection is not a substitute for full security policy, but it can prevent casual access.

Use a strong password

Choose a password that is not easy to guess from the recipient name, company name, or document title.

Share the password safely

Do not put the password in the same email body as the protected file if you can avoid it. Use a separate channel or a delayed follow-up.

Keep a clear version history

Store the protected output with a clear name so you do not confuse it with the original unprotected PDF later.
