Which year's rules this guide uses

This guide follows the JEE (Main) 2026 upload rules set by the National Testing Agency. On 2 October 2026 the 2027 Information Bulletin had not yet been published, so every size and format mentioned here comes from the 2026 bulletin. Before you upload anything, open the official JEE (Main) website and the JEE (Main) 2026 Information Bulletin, and look for the newest notice. If a newer bulletin gives a different number, follow the bulletin, not this page.

What you upload, in plain words

Most applicants need a photograph, a signature and a Class 10 document. Two more files apply only to some.

  • Photograph: a JPG or JPEG between 10 KB and 200 KB.
  • Signature: a JPG or JPEG between 10 KB and 100 KB. Note the lower ceiling.
  • Class 10 certificate or marksheet: a PDF between 50 KB and 300 KB.
  • Identity proof: a JPG or JPEG between 10 KB and 200 KB, needed only if you do not verify through Aadhaar or DigiLocker.
  • Disability or UDID certificate: a PDF between 50 KB and 300 KB, for PwD and PwBD candidates only.

Pictures are JPG and documents are PDF. No pixel size is fixed, so the KB range is the target.

The photograph: white background, face filling the frame

The bulletin asks for a recent passport-size colour photo on a white background. Your face should cover about 80% of the image, with no mask and your ears visible. That is tighter than a normal selfie.

Some general tips that work well with a phone:

  • Face a window in daylight, with a plain white wall or bedsheet behind you. Light from the front keeps shadows off the wall.
  • Ask a friend to hold the phone at your eye level.
  • Tuck your hair behind your ears and take off any mask or cap.

Crop first, then fix the file size. Use Image Crop to trim the picture so your face fills about 80% of it, then Fit Image to KB to bring it between 10 KB and 200 KB. If your phone saved the photo as HEIC or PNG, change it with Image Convert first. Renaming a file to .jpg does not change what is inside it.

During the form a live photo is also captured through a webcam or phone camera. It is separate from your uploaded file, but both should clearly show the same face.

Signature and identity proof

For the signature, the only stated rule is that it must be clearly legible. No ink colour or pixel size is given. As general advice, sign on plain white paper with a dark pen, photograph it in good light and crop close so there is little empty paper around it. Keep the file between 10 KB and 100 KB.

The identity step depends on how you verify. If you verify through Aadhaar or DigiLocker, the separate identity-proof upload does not apply to you. If you use another route, you upload an identity document as a JPG of 10 KB to 200 KB. Lay the card flat, shoot it straight on so every corner shows with the name and number readable.

The Class 10 PDF and the disability certificate

Your Class 10 certificate or marksheet goes up as a scanned, clearly legible PDF between 50 KB and 300 KB. If you have no scanner, photograph the page on a flat table in daylight and turn it into a PDF with Scan to PDF. If the PDF comes out too heavy, Compress PDF can aim it at a KB target. If it is too light, which often happens with clean digital marksheets, Meet Minimum Size can raise it above 50 KB without changing what you see on the page.

PwD and PwBD candidates also upload a disability or UDID certificate issued by the notified medical authority, in the same range of 50 KB to 300 KB. After compressing, check that the stamp, signature and certificate number are still readable. If a downloaded certificate is locked with a password you know, remove it first with Unlock PDF.

A short routine before you open the form

  1. Photograph or scan each original in good light.
  2. Crop the photo and signature, and convert anything that is not already JPG.
  3. Fit each image and PDF into its own KB range.
  4. Check the full set with Portal Preflight for JEE (Main), which compares format and size against the rules above.
  5. Upload, then look at the preview on the form before you move on.

All of these DocNimble tools run inside your browser. Your files stay on your phone or computer and are not uploaded to DocNimble.

Uploads usually fail for simple reasons: a PNG or HEIC renamed to .jpg, a photo just over 200 KB, a signature over 100 KB, a PDF under 50 KB, or a scan so blurred the text cannot be read.

Frequently asked questions

My photo is 300 KB. How do I get it under 200 KB without making it blurry?

Crop away the extra background first. A tighter crop removes pixels you do not need, and your face should cover about 80% of the frame anyway. Then use the Fit Image to KB tool with a range of 10 KB to 200 KB. As a general rule, a small drop in JPG quality saves more space than shrinking the picture. Aim a little below the ceiling rather than exactly on it, then zoom in to check sharpness.

Do I need to upload an identity proof if I verify with Aadhaar?

Under the 2026 bulletin, the separate identity-proof image is only for candidates who verify their identity some other way than Aadhaar or DigiLocker. If you take the Aadhaar or DigiLocker route, that upload should not apply to you. If you use another document, prepare it as a JPG or JPEG between 10 KB and 200 KB, photographed flat with all text readable.

Can I upload my signature as a PNG?

The 2026 rules list only JPG and JPEG for the signature, and the same for the photograph and identity proof. A PNG saved by a scanning app needs a real conversion, not just a new file name. Convert it to JPG in your browser, then confirm it sits between 10 KB and 100 KB. Signatures are small images, so it may already fit once converted.

My Class 10 PDF is below 50 KB. What should I do?

The bulletin sets 50 KB as the minimum for this PDF, so a very light file falls short even if it looks perfect. Marksheets downloaded from a board website are often this small. The Meet Minimum Size tool adds harmless padding that raises the file size without changing the visible pages. Afterwards, make sure the result still stays under the 300 KB ceiling.

Is the live photo the same as the photograph I upload?

No. The uploaded photograph is a file you prepare in advance. The live photo is captured by webcam or phone while you fill in the form. Both should clearly show you, so take the live photo in good front light against a plain background, without a mask, with your face centred. As general advice, close other apps using the camera so the browser can reach it.
